Always lock your car.

Close all windows when the car is parked.

Never leave valuables in plain view, lock them in the boot or take them with you.

Use security systems such as car alarms or if this is not possible at least have security stickers on the car so as to deter potential theives.

If any valuable stereo equipment is in the car, remove the face of the radio/CD Player (if at all possible) and put it out of sight. Try to make this a habit!!

Get an immobiliser installed into your car.

Steering wheel locks though not entirely effective against professionals are good for stopping many joyriders. There are also new products that are kind of like a steering wheel lock except they hook onto your accelerator and brake pedals making it extremely hard for someone to steal your vehicle.

Lock your car even if you’re only stepping away for a short time and even if it’s in front of your home.

Park in well-lit areas. Avoid parking near forests, large vans or trucks, or anything else that limits your visibility.

Try to park if possible in a carpark with an attendant. Leave only the ignition key, with no identification.

Turn wheels sharply toward the curb when parking (this makes it harder for thieves to tow your car.

Keep the keys to your home and car separate and never attach a tag with your name and address to your key ring.

Park in well-lit, heavily populated areas. Trust your instincts, if something doesn’t feel right, find another place to park.

Avoid parking next to occupied vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings.

Take note of emergency/pay phones near where you have parked in case you need to use them.
